Project Kidz Kove came about with the recognition of need for a universally accessible park for children in Ascension Parish, Louisiana. The nearest park of this nature at the time was over 65 miles away; a distance some children are unable to travel and still have high quality fun. In late October of 2010 another universally accessible park was constructed, but visiting this park would still require a 40 minute drive out of town.
What is the need?
Currently, there are an estimated 2,000 children in Ascension Parish who have a physical or developmental disability that alters their ability to play on, or experience a typical playground. An estimated 20,000 children in Ascension and surrounging parishes would immediately benefit from a universally accessible park. That park will be Kidz Kove Discovery Park.
Play is universal. Play opens avenues for children to learn from one another, develop relationships, and be seen and heard in their community. All children should have a place to play.
We are in the process of infrastructure construction and plan on a community build late August/ early September.
With the help of the community. This will be a community build project. If interested in volunteering, donating or building efforts, please call 921-0380, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
